Graded Blem Balls
At Blemballs, we have inspected thousands and thousands of blem balls from all the major brands. We have developed a proprietary system for evaluating and rating blem balls into three grade levels (PHOTOS BELOW).
Grade A Balls - These balls are virtually indistinguishable from their non-blem counterparts. The most common blemishes are off-centered stamping (ink), a subtle wrinkle in the cover, or an imperfect stitch. These balls are often BETTER baseballs than some of the higher-priced models from the same manufacturer. Grade A balls are excellent practice balls and our customers even use them for scrimmages or youth games. Grade A balls are sold at a 15% premium to our Standard balls.
Grade B Balls - These are typical blem balls with slightly more blemishes than Grade A balls, "on average". Blemishes could include slight irregularities in the stitching, BLAH BLAH BLAH. There are no Grade A or Grade C balls in a Grade B box. Balls in this category are great for practice, BP, or scrimmages but not preferred for games. Grade B balls are sold at a 5% premium to our Standard balls.
Grade C Balls - Grade C balls are the true misfits of the blem ball world. Only a small percentage of balls receive this grade. Defects include irregular stitching, possible slight misshaping, wrinkles in the cover, etc. While not recommended for more advanced drills or competition, these balls remain suitable for BP and other drills. Grade C balls are sold at a 15% discount to our Standard balls.
When you buy a box of Standard blem balls (any brand), approximately X% will be Grade A, Y% Grade B and Z% Grade C. These are the balls sold by all competing retailers, and we offer these balls too as our "Standard" balls.
